UNN governing council chair wins Abia APC gov ticket

The chairman, governing council of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Ikechi Emenike, has won the governorship ticket of the All Progressive Congress in Abia state.
He polled a total number of 672 votes to defeat his closet rival Emeka Atuma who scored 159 votes.
Other aspirants in the primary election included the immediate past Minister of State for Mines and Steel, Uche Ogah, who got 6 votes, Daniel Eke who got 16 votes, and Paul Ikonne who polled 22 votes.
Also, Alex Otti and a former Commissioner for Finance in the state, Obinna Oriaku, who participated in the primary election polled 14 and 12 votes respectively.
The returning officer for the primary election, Mr Tony Obiefna, declared Emenike the winner of the election.

He stated that the total number of accredited delegates for the primary election was 920, while the total number of votes cast was 907. He said the number of valid votes was 892 while invalid votes was 15.
In his acceptance speech, Emenike said he has received the mandate given to him by his party with every sense of responsibility.
He urged all the party members not to relent, but to do their best for the party to win the governorship election in the 2023 general elections.
