Declaration Speech of Christian Chukwudi Nwodo PDP House of Assembly Aspirant Udenu Constituency
Pharm Nwodo Christian Chukwudi |
A VOICE IN THE WILDERNESS: SEND ME, SEND ME.
My name is Christian Chukwudi Nwodo (Famkris). I am from Umunkpume, Ajuona Orba ward 1.
I do hereby present my self to represent the good people of Udenu Local government Constituency at the Enugu State House of Assembly.
I strongly believe I am the best, among the aspiring candidates, to represent us. I have got this multiple personality of being able to mingle perfectly among the high class, the middle class and the very low class in the society, who I seek their consent to represent. With this, I am bold enough to speak up and attract the dividend of democracy to the good people of Udenu local government area. I would be able to interact freely with the least persons in the Constituency and know their plights and bring them to government's attention. I am the most suitable to bridge the gap between the high class and the low, who has been cut off from the people that have represented them at the State Assembly. I have also got the integrity and track record of being able to consider the needs of others before mine and this would ensure that the dividend when attracted, would get to the masses.
I heard from my co aspirant, in a voice note that was being circulated, that certain Development centre in the local government, Udenu North Development centre to be precise, which according to him constitute Obollo Afor and Amalla ward, has been marginalized and deserve the right to produce the next house of assembly member.
This is a part of the campaign I never wanted to delve into as I would rather have marketed my credibility to the people rather than cooking up sentiments for myself.
However, having brought up the issue of marginalization, I wish to give a brief response to it so the gullible wouldn't be deceived.
I wish to state that the office of the Governor being occupied by Rt Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of ward 1, ought not to have been mentioned by my honourable colleague in his analysis the political offices being occupied by different development centres in Udenu local government area, as he represent the slot of Enugu North senatorial zone, and not a development centre or wards in Udenu local government area.
My colleague and friend was cooking up lies on how Udenu North Development centre, consisting Amalla and Obollo Afor, according to him, has been marginalized. This is a big lie being sold to the gullible to attract unnecessary sentiment.

Historically, Udenu as a local government was first carved out of the old Isi-Uzo local government in 1981.
Hon. Silas Odoh who hails from Ezimo administered the local government between 1981-1983 and Hon. Okey Ogbonna (Caesar) who is from Amalla (under Udenu North Development centre which was being said to be marginalized) also administered the council.
This was before the military struck again and Udenu was later created again in October 1st 1996 by Military Government of Abacha.
A sole administration in the person of Samuel A. Ozioko (KSM) was immediately appointed to head the newly created local government with ten electoral wards.
The first executive Chairman of Udenu was sworn in in 1997 by the person of Hon Chief James Ugwu of Imilike ward.
Hon Eugene Odoh from Obollo Afor (from same Udenu North Development centre, which my colleague said has been marginalized) was also the 2nd executive Chairman from 1999 to 2001, and was re-sworn in as caretaker chairman til 2002.
Following the exit of Hon. Eugene Odoh in 2002, a transition committee chaired by chief (Hon) Bernard A. Eze who hails from Obollo-Afor (the same Udenu North Development centre) came in the saddle. The transition government of chief Barnard Eze ended in 2003 after the general Election. Again, chief Bernard Eze was restored back as Udenu local Govt. caretaker committee chairman in 2003. The Govt. came to an end in 2004.
Hon Fabian from Obollo Eke was elected afterwards.
The government of Hon. Fabian Ugwu ran into troubled water while Kevin Ojobor, his deputy from Amalla (the same Udenu North Development centre) acted.
In January 2008, the fourth executive chairman of Udenu local government was brought in. The chairman was Hon. Prince Ezeh; a medical doctor who hails from Amalla ward (the same Udenu North development council where my co aspirant said has been marginalized)
Hence, one wonders how Udenu North Development centre has been marginalized after having produced so many Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, SAs, SSAs, SPAs, Commissioners, Legislative Speakers, etc contrary to what was being sold to the gullible.
Having cleared this on Udenu North Development centre, it's worthy to note that what constituted Udenu Local government area and have been the yardstick for measuring distribution of political office in Udenu are the ten wards and not development centres.
These wards include, Amalla, Ezimo, Imilike, Obollo Afor, Obollo Eke, Ezimo, Udunedem, Ogbodo-aba, Orba ward 1 and Orba ward 2.
The fact remains that if there is any ward in Udenu local government that has been marginalized, it's Orba ward 1. The marginalization has been so pronounced that no dividend of democracy comes to Orba ward 1. None of the political offices: both appointed and elected has come from Orba ward 1, except Hon Cyril Okanya who was a vice Chairman under Hon Prince Eze from the same development center my colleague was referring to as being marginalized.
These include past and present national Assembly, State House of Assembly, local government chairman and vice chairman, commissioners, SSA, MDs, and other political office holdera that have been produced by Udenu local government. Orba ward 1 hasn't produced any aside one vice Chairman stated above. We have suffered lots of marginalization and should be given the opportunity to produce the next State House of Assembly member.
Hon Frank Ugwu, the immediate past Chairmen is from ward 2.
The current Chairman Hon Solomon Onah is from Obollo Eke while the vice chairman is from ward 2.
It's obvious Orba ward 1 has never been in the scheme of things in the local government.
It was never my intention to delve into this part of the polity but it was necessary to make the above clarification so the gullible wouldn't be deceived with propaganda of Udenu North Development centre being marginalized.
I rather wished to just speak about my credibility and ability to offer the good people of Udenu local government a quality representation.
When I am eventually elected to represent the good people of Udenu Local Government Area, we would have a feel of what it means to have a representative. It would be such that other representatives in the Enugu State Assembly would copy what a true representative is. And with the vision the incoming administration has for Enugu, other states would use Enugu as a template and start copying from Enugu State, both in their Executive and Legislative arm, and when other states starts getting it right, we would have that Nigeria of our dream.
I appeal to our delegates to find me worthy of this call to service and vote me for a quality and an effective representation.
Pharm. Christian Nwodo.
