Touts Dared Charles Soludo over the revenue order. On Sunday, a gang of touts attacked an unidentified tricyclist in Awka, Anambra State, for allegedly refusing to pay a daily collection of N200 at the park where he worked.

The victim was said to have refused to hand over the money after Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, banned it.

During his inauguration on Thursday, Soludo declared a ban on all forms of touting and cash tax payments in the state. According to an eyewitness, Frank Akpan, three touts approached the tricyclist and demanded that he pay them the usual #200 that all tricyclists pay at the pit (park) before first loading.

“The tricyclist had laughed and mocked them, telling them to go find something else to do because touting is illegal in Anambra,” he said.

“However, the touts insisted, claiming that they were not prepared for such antics and boasting that they had survived similar policies during Obiano’s administration.”

He went on to say that the angry touts yanked the tricyclist from his bike and punched him in the face, resulting in swollen cheeks and blood gushing from his mouth.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police for Anambra Command, CP Echeng Echeng, has directed that the State Government’s ban on touting and self-proclaimed revenue collectors in the state be strictly enforced. The CP, through the Command spokesperson, Ikenga Tochukwu, urged officers to follow the order to the letter, particularly in motor parks and other designated areas across the state.

“The CP also warns all unscrupulous elements engaged in touting and other unlawful acts to desist immediately, as the Police and other security agents have been deployed throughout the State to arrest and prosecute anyone who disobeys this order.”

“The CP, while reaffirming the Command’s commitment to crime prevention and the restoration of law and order, enjoins Ndi-Anambra and all residents of the State to be vigilant and security conscious at all times, and to report all suspicious movements to the Police.”
