ChukwuEmeka Amos ChukwuEmeka, is the Senate President Student Union Government ,University of Nigeria,Nsukka. In this interview, he shares how the task and journey has been for him as the Senate President.

Hello, Good Afternoon! I am Ezeh Emmanuel (Nwaigba) from Nwaigba info blog, I will be interviewing you today alongside with my Partner, Hon. Alex Nwuko.

Question: Can we get to know you ?

Ans: I am Chukwuemeka Amos Chukwuemeka, The SUG Senate President UNN and UNEC Campus.

Question:  Can we know you in detail, Your Faculty and Department?

Ans: I am in department  of Plant Science and Biotechnology. I'm in 400 Level that's Faculty of Biological Sciences.

Question: we will like to know how far the journey has been for You as the senate president?

Ans: I think its not an easy task for me and maybe other persons that have stayed In the position before now. But then the Grace of God has been seeing me through. 

It really requires wisdom and also prayer and that's the essence of praying for Grace. Then I believe God has been faithful to me

Question: we will like to know your biggest achievement as the senate President so Far?

Ans: When I was contesting

for this Position, I told them four Strong things that I must do;Firstly, Consensual Decision making; and  I think in the senate there is nothing like sidelining. I carry everybody along as much possible as I can knowing quite right it is Politics and one have to be wise and knowing also it is beyond school politics here,I maybe the Senate president today in school, tomorrow one of my colleagues will be the president of this country or i.

so,you never can tell but then,I'm a direct kind of person. I just try to be as transparent as much I can and leave the rest for God. i make more friends than foes and am sure about it.

Secondly, we talked about Faculty tour which by the grace of God we are working on now. God helping us there are some equipments that we have attracted to the school through politicians like Microphone of Huge Sets, which by The end of the administration will be shared to different faculties. 

Thirdly,I also told them that I will be taking them to the National Assembly. These are my Campaign Promises and I have been able to keep them. I think Last Week(7th December) we went. And it Is one of those things i count as Success in my administration. Finally, when I was Going for this Position, I used to tell them  it is beyond School Politics. You talk about relationship. Sometimes this positions we occupy here are just to make names for ourselves and you know a good name is better than Gold and Silver because if you have a good  name today,posterity will smile for you tomorrow. 

So when I was running for this position I used to tell some of my Core Supporters that it is Beyond The Small Change we can Get here. I don't think there is any money I can make in the Union that can  blast my life to be a Celebrity or to be celebrated . it can only announce your Existence to your world and Because of that I have seen relationship as the best thing I can get in student Union Government. I take Everyone as friend, I Don't work with the spirit of Pride and negligence,I accept Everybody. I have many Friends in the Senate and I can Count on them. So,i am very happy for it....

Question:  When you were listing your Achievement, you Said something about Uniting the Senate House. Can we Know more about Your Relationship between you And the Senators in Enugu and Nsukka Campus?

Ans: you know let me tell you, no matter how Righteous a man might look both Outward and inward, you Can not get the support of everyone. At least as a normal political animal which we are, we are supposed to keep balance. I believe that to my greatest knowledge,I have formed a formidable relationship with a lot of senators. I talk with them as brothers and sisters, I don't ignore people, I take people's calls no matter how busy I am,I return calls when I miss their calls. Some of them will have problem,they will come to me not because I have,  but because they believe they can confide in me and I have something to offer. 

So, I think I have made it In a way that, I don't roll with a particular set of People just to watch the balance.

OK, When I won, one of the most important thing I did is that ; we were Four Contesting for this Office then, and one of Them Is Senator Siko(Chienyi Kosiso Angus). Senator SiKo Is from my Faculty and by the Grace of God After Everything I won. What I did is ,  Instead of Scaring him away , I Brought him Close. I think he is one of my Best Friend in the Senate because I tell him almost everything I do and This are things we need in Politics. I use to tell him then you are not my opponent ,you are just a running mate and after it that's all. 

Senator Siko can Easily do anything for me because of this Relationship I am talking about  but In a normal sense or in normal political settings, one will tell you 'Your Enemy is Your Enemy', But I don't think that is it, but then we have to be very Careful. So to a very Strong extent, I believe this is a very strong Alignment to unity in the Senate house. Am not sidelining any of them,i love them all especially my wonderful DSP Sen.Olisa Emeka and Sen.Felix

Question: We Will like To know what Inspired you to Run for the Position of Senate President?

Ans: Well! When I was in Secondary School , I never Picked interest in doing all this Students Politics. But then I had a change of mind or Rather I had A fresh Orientation. When I was In Year one , I started Noticing That these are things I can Do knowing well I have the qualities. And the truth us that The Senate President was not the office I wanted to go for,but then There was a day I was Reading about Bukola Saraki, That's the Current Nigerian Senate President And after reading about him I loved him. I started following the legislative activities in the Country. I started reading about some  of this Great Legislators; Dino Melaye, Murray Ben Bruce. This are men not only in Nigeria, Killer Website from Sweden. This  are Great legislators that are strong. And I decided I will go for Senate. I wanted to go for House but I needed something that will be sounding better. 

So I said since the Senate is  the upper chamber of University Student Union Government, I think i will go for it and then when I go there I will now know what to do next, you Know It is an In-house Election, So that's Why I Changed.

Before I wanted to go for SUG President let me be Clear to you, so but after a lot of Weighing and Being Realistic I decided to go for the Office of The Senate President and am Enjoying it and I pray that I will be the Senate president one day in Nigeria... (Amen).

Question: Can we say your Role model is Sen.Dr. Bukola Saraki because of Your Office?

Ans: Eem, i don't know what you are talking about but let me not say he is Not. I don't have a Role Model, am Sorry. { You Are Man of Yourself ?} Yes, I like him, I envy Him I envy his Capacity, wisdom. He is a Very smart politician and That is It.

Question: Have you Held any political Position before Contesting  for the Senate President (Whether Departmental, Faculty or Class) ?

Ans: You know one funny Thing about my Life? , I am Chukwuemeka Amos Chukwuemeka. This is a name I started answering when I was in Primary school. Some People know me here because am from Nsukka. So I have a lot of my classmate here, When I was in my primary school I was the class Prefect. Then in my Secondary School i was the Senior Prefect. Are you seeing it? In my Junior Secondary I was the Chapel Prefect. That time they are doing Junior and Senior. I was the Chapel Prefect (I Can Pray oh, You Don't Know that One!). So when I was in Senior Secondary, i was the Senior Prefect. Then, when i came to the University, i was the Class Representative, as am talking to You now  am still the Class Rep and I don't think  I will drop it. So I have Been a Class Rep and Also Being in this Office. 

So this Leadership Spirit, I don't Believe in those Words That somebody is a born to Rule and the other Is Born To Be serve. Just that I believe since I was born , I have been in this Leadership life cycle  and I am Enjoying it. Who  Knows some other time I will be Something else, you know. We Just Pray {We wish You well, Amen.}

Question: We will Like you to tell us about your trip to Sweden?

Ans: Wow! My Trip to Sweden. Whenever I remember this, I just Remember my Vice Chancellor and the Dean of student Affairs. The Vice Chancellor, Prof B.C Ozumba, i love him, he is the best I mean he is the Best. And also our dean Prof S.I Ofoefule, He is a Wonderful man with God's Mind. I like him because he is Direct, if he is angry with You, he will tell you, if he is not angry with you he will tell you. This Are people that made my going very Possible.

 Because over the Years, the legislative arms of the student union,they don't recognize them, am I Lying ? Is not Pride, am just trying to be honest. Over the years the only people they know in SUG is Only The Executives not just all the members of the Executives, but the  President. Most People self don't Even know all the Executives. All they Know is The President and The Vice President Sometimes. But in Our Administration, You can See that my name Is Even shouting More than some of them, am I lying ?. I will not say its Capacity but it depends on who you are. Anything is possible, the word Impossibility can only Be found In the Dictionary Of a Fool. A normal man can Not Understand The Mystery of the Vice Chancellor Sending The Legislative Arm; and maybe Because of One Person you don't Know, let me not talk much on it. 

So my Going to Sweden was a Miracle because Over the years, the past Administration the Senate president didn't go with them and This One the Vice Chancellor have to consider us and Its The best Thing, Personal Thing I have gotten from this Administration. I stand to appreciate the Vice Chancellor. I can not Forget that name and our Dean too,president bros-j and president Fortune. They are wonderful!

Question: Can we say You Worked for it or You sat on Your Own and it Came ?

Ans: mmm, You Must Work for it Nah! You Must Work for It. But let's Not Talk about That One here Now.

question: some students have been rumoring that the sweden trip was funded with their money, so we will like you to tell us little about how the funding came about ?

Ans: No Comment! No Comment!! [So We should Allow The Students to Continue with The Rumor ?] No Comment.

Question: We will Like you To tell the Students what you Learnt From the Sweden Trip and How it Can Help develop And Or Impact The Student Union and The School at Large ?

Ans: In Sweden, In Stockholm. We went to Stockholm University for a Programme. We had a Very Strong Interactive session with The Student Union Leaders of Stockholm University. We sat with Them, Gist with Them and Discussed to a Very Lengthy Period. The Way of their Student Unionism is quite very Different from Ours. But then , What i learnt there is that they Respect the Union. That Place every Body Is not a Mandatory Member of the Union. That place for You to Belong you have to Pay, But In UNN Everybody is A Member. 

Now, If you go to That Place; Students they have their own body just as we have. But then, they have a lot of Branches that before you can even reach to the President it will be difficult. Because if you go to that place, a lot of People, they are many. Its just Like if you come to UNN, You See Faculty Senators, Then There they  can Even be Looking at The Faculty President as a Very Or at the Helm of The Student Union. And Before you play the Politics To the President, its Very Dangerous, its very Difficult because that place They have a lot of Department, a  Lot of Faculties, a lot of Proceedings. 

There are a lot of Things you need to do before You just Rise up. So the Difference between there Union and Ours Is that they are running their Union without their Administration but Ours We are Under The School Administration and we are enjoying it because they are doing us well. And You know The Advantage of ours To theirs Is That, You Can Not make away with School Money, Before School Will Give You Money for anything , they must make sure That it is Appropriated. They must make sure that what you are doing with it must be executed.

 But that Place one Person can Easily carry The Money. { (Laughs) We will Come to this Issue later}.

Question: We Saw a Recent Video of the Senate Trip to National Assembly, we will like to know the reason for the Trip?

Ans: wow! Eem, I think am fulfilled after that Movement. I told you this is one of my Campaign Promises to the Senators, I told Them I will take them To National Assembly. We have gone there before for a heritage Award, a Conference. But This Time  its the whole 51 Senators. We wrote to them that we will like to come And Witness their Plenary session and they granted our Request on 6th December and we Went But Unfortunately to us we Didn't See most of them. Its only few People that Came for the plenary Because Of one PDP rally they went. It was even the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremmadu That Presided Over the Plenary.

 So Dr. Saraki  was not even There But it is well, at Least We learnt things. You know UNN Senate is Just A Miniature of what is going On there and we Enjoyed it. My parents were Watching it and They Were Very Happy When Sen. Ekweremmadu was welcoming And Announcing Our Presence. So I felt Good, I felt Wonderful. 

My administration went and this Are things to hold  in the books of Records. So I think Its One Of Those Things I have done For the Senate through the help of the Vice Chancellor And Dean Of Students Affair.

Question: With all This Trips So far, I think By Now The Senate  should Have their own Bus Maybe Through the Vice Chancellor?

Ans: Yes, It is What it is Supposed to Be But you know, (Laughs) everything is Ok! Everything is Fine. The Vice Chancellor am telling you is the Best V.C we have Ever Had.

Question: To Cut you Answer Short, are we Expecting the Bus Very Soon? Before You Handover Or After? 

Ans: By the Grace of God,  Everything is Possible. You don't Know if i will meet Dr. Saraki Tomorrow and he will ask Me what is my Problem, and I will Tell him the Senate Needs a Bus and He will give it to me. Everything is Possible or What if I meet the Governor Of Enugu state tomorrow and it happens he gives it to me. Everything is Possible. I believe if I can Get a Bus for the Senate I will be very Happy and I pray for it. I still have other Things in Mind To do that is Even Bigger Than Getting a Bus.

Question: we Will Like to know The Challenges you have Faced in the Senate and how you Resolved it ?

Ans: Now! You see the Business Of legislation, it is the most Difficult business especially when you are the Presiding officer. Constitutionally, we Are to Ratify Judges. 

Eem! That day it was in our plenary Session that held at UNEC. That day The President gave Us three(3) Names, so we are Working on their Profile, I saw a lot of Persons there for a Particular Person that constitution is not doing well To stay in that position, some Were Supporting,Some were Against. And you know i am only a president Officer.

 A presiding Officer will only listen to the People that he is Leading, That is The Followers and you Knack the Gavel. So  Somebody Told Me That the 'yeee' will always Have it and That day I did The Business without any fear and The Guy was Out. { You Mean Senator Legit ?} I don't Know,  But if You know the happenings in Union , you're Supposed to know what I am talking about. I don't need To be telling you Names. So No Fear! Its our Job.

Question: To Our Surprise when the News Came in that a Name was Rejected, we Couldn't believe it because the Person in Question is a Former Senator. I Thought the Senate Chamber would Have given him a Soft Ride ? So, As He didn't Scale Through did You Feel Bitter after hitting the Gavel or what was Your Feeling after the whole Process ? 

Ans: Yes, I felt bitter Because he is An Archival Senator. At least am supposed to like him because he is an Archival Senator. So, I like him, we even Talk A times. But then, this is the business of the House . 

it is beyond the Senate President. So, it's what the House decides, I obey and I did it without any fear or atom of phobia. 

I felt bad and I know he will Feel bad too, but then he understood that it is The Business of the Legislation { It takes much Courage ?} Yes! He is a good Man and am very happy he is not taking it personal.

Question: lest I forget, The young man in Question sued the senate to SUG Court, though we didn't hear much about the Case?

Ans: you cannot take the Senate to Court, It is within our Jurisdiction to ratify. It is in the Constitution that the Senate ratifies. So the court Cannot say anything. They don't have power over us to discuss who we Ratifies or who we don't. So , he did it but then , they didn't have surrounding to stand and discuss the ratification palaver in the Court.

Question: Everybody Enjoys Its  own Fundamental Human Right, i Understood  He took the Senate to court because he was Disqualified based on personal character and all that ?

Ans: Go to the Publication, you will see The Reasons why he was Disqualified. All of them is quite Constitutional. So no need of discussing it here. But it was Not out of Personal interest . for Me, I just did my Job and I loved it

Question:  I pray That You Introduce to The Constitution (Standing Order) that atleast people who have Served in the senate before , Should have an Easy ride?

Ans: i don't Understand. Are you a Fan of the Young Man? [ Am Just trying not  to be biased, wanted to carry Out Through investigation then, but was notified the issue was In court; So i Mellowed]. OK, I will Refer You to the CHAIRMAN On Judicial Matters, Sen. Chidera From Faculty of Law. I think he will Explain to you Better.

Question: The UNEC House of Representative Suspended ONE Executive Before now and the senate Reinstated him Back. We will like to hear from You while the Senate intervened ? 

Ans: ok! The issue was not too serious and I think the Senate on its own was just trying to protect the Noble Interest of peace and Harmony in the SUG. 

Now, when We saw The Surroundings on which the Young man was suspended, we didn't see much reason, it was not Justifiable. I mean they didn't have Grounds to make mockery of his Name not just suspending. And a lot of senators where angry very angry with the Business of the House suspension the young man. I spoke with the Officer Myself, he Showed me the chats, he told me everything. I also saw that he was saying the truth in everything and that's why we acted that way. But I don't wear are supposed to fight. The House and the senate is the legislative arm of the Union. If we are fighting , who now will Crosscheck the doings in the Executive. So I don't like discussing it, because it is like fighting over your brother. But we are okay.

The Speaker is my very Good Friend, Hon. kelvin and am enjoying him and I believe nothing like that will happen again. Even if we must Suspend, When an Officer will be suspended this time again, the senate will appreciate the House because I know the house will take the very proper Way of doing it. So if it happens next Time, I will release a broadcast felicitating and thanking them for the Bold step because that is the business, 'that's what makes the UNION sweet'. But I am not praying for that. The Union is going well, I don't want anything that will bring outsiders to come and be listening to unjust Stories.

Question: Some other Time , you intervened When UNN SUG House Of Rep wanted to Suspend the SUG Treasurer, what do you have to say about this ?

Ans: i did not Intervene ohh! Now, Listen! When the Treasurer was Suspended i was in the Scene{Wow} Yes! I was in the Scene because she was wrong. She was at fault. Because she was at fault I backed Off. So the Speaker did a very Wonderful Job and ThankGod she is wise, she Accepted Guilty And they Reinstated Her Back.

Question: So You are Encouraging officers who are FounD guilty to start pleading for Forgiveness instead of the House carrying out their Constitutional duty of Suspending and Impeaching ?

Ans: you Know one thing about suspending someone is that it is not a good thing oh! You don't know when you are suspended , it will be in your Name and record that when you were in SUG, you were suspended, You cannot Clean it again. Its Just like if am Impeached as the Senate President it will be on my Record. I will not encourage suspending or Impeaching any person. But then the Constitution is not For look, if someone defaults it is called 'GROSS Misconduct' , if Found Quite guilty , we Need to hit the Gavel on the base without any fear.

Question: You said the Constitution is not for Look; Then, the Move by the Senate Reinstating the Suspended Officer, Isn't that Unconstitutional?

Ans: Well, we are working on the basis that the senate is the highest law making body of the Union. Apart from that, we don't have any business. What we can give is recommendation to the house but then, Capacity dey Work ohh(Laughing) . that's the Case, We have the right to tell the house to see, see and see, That's what is in the Constitution. 

But then, for the fact that we are the highest law making body we are supposed to know the details of everything that is happening. when we are not working  in the obedient way with the house, we are  wrecked. That's why am telling you, we cannot make that mistake of: if the House suspends someone tomorrow, we will rush and go and reinstate the person..no,no,no! 

So far, it is not on a personal Basis! you know this is a business of Nigerian students. If it is on a normal Circumstance that the person was found guilty and it is Obvious, they can go on. If it is because you have a problem with one of the executive, you start working against the person, that one is Wickedness and Childishness. And Anybody that plays like that doesn't go far and I cannot even partake in that type of case.

Question: you said something about the senate being the highest law making body; but currently according to the Constitution most of the powers are giving to the House of Reps, has it been amended ?

Ans: But the Constitution Was Amended, Have you seen the Constitution now? If You see the Constitution it Reads ' The Senate shall be the Highest Law Making body Of the Union' . Infact very soon You will see a broadcast from me and Will want you (Nwaigba Info Blog) to help Me broadcast a very Strong decision from my office about all this aspirants writing names on grounds, littering the school compound unnecessarily and am very serious about it. That is why we make decisions, so because of that power we can write to the Security on what to do. Am already working on it. So very soon you will see it.

Question: What do you think is the most pressing political issues of the day in the Country? 

Ans: The answer i will give to you will not be what you will be needing from Me. I know you will be expecting 'Corruption' ? (you are on Your own). For me, and I don't want you to ask me why? For me,I will say "RELIGION". Please I don't want you to Ask Me Why?

Question: Who do You See Winning 2019 General Election?

Ans: Should I talk as a Prophet or as A Politician? (both) Well, Everybody is Shouting Atiku and PDP but it will not be easy like that.  Am telling you.

Question: so You are Predicting that The Current President will Come Back?

Ans: it will be very Difficult, it will not be as easy As People are seeing It. It is beyond people Shouting PDP When you sit Down to Under the Strength of  this People. But PDP, they are trying! I will not say but it is between Buhari and Atiku.

Question: Please Predict for Us or Just tell us one Candidate who you think will win?

Ans: Ok, Atiku Of PDP will win. Am Predicting Atiku.

Question: In conclusion, whats your Words for Nigerian Students Especially those In UNN?

Ans: Thank You so much for Granting me this Interview. Its a Great privilege  Interacting with You. I think I will like to tell all Nigerian students most especially Aspirants that it is beyond  Politics in School. 

Anything You are doing , consider First your Relationship with People because this is a preparatory stage for anyone that wants to go far. Protect your image first, Make your Name known in a Better Positive way, that is it. When you now get the name, other things shall be added to you
