Comr. Chimezie Fortunatus, The UNN SUG president Who Came to Power with The Slogan 'Preserving Aluta Integrity' has Kept to his words Of truly Preserving aluta Integrity by Releasing His Administration Score Card which Comprises of Up to Thirty (30) Achievements.

 In His New Year Message, he Admonished all Lions and Lionesses For Their uncommon solidarity and relentless support all through the past year Which has Helped in Bringing Many Good Things to the Union.

He Pointed out All this Achievement which was consolidated through  The office of the  Various Directors, while stating that more needs to be done. In his Words, 'I will not pretend that we have done all, there is more to be done, there are still myriads of challenges confronting us, but we believe by God's grace we shall overcome all.'

Unforgettably, He Prays that this New year 2019 brings all Lion and Lionesses everything good especially more Partnership and Greater Achievement while assuring All That Preserving the Aluta Integrity is still the Vision.

NEW YEAR MESSAGE

Solidarity greetings great Lions and Lionesses! I welcome you all heartily to the New Year and sincerely appreciate the over 40,000 students of the University of Nigeria for your uncommon solidarity and relentless support all through the past year 2018. 2018 was a year that brought many things our way. 

More importantly, it was the year this current administration was given the mantle of leadership which we have continued to uphold selflessly and with all sense of dedication to service to Nigerian students and humanity. 

I feel particularly indebted to every student for your continuous support to the administration in the good and bad times, during the wins and loses, the opportunities and the set backs, the smiles and the tears, I am happy to tell you that this support has kept us going and has strengthened our resolve to offer nothing short of the best. Permit me to reiterate that the Comrade Chimezie Fortunatus led administration is poised and uncompromising in its quest to preserve aluta integrity. 

May I humbly present to you, the leadership scorecard of the SUG 2017/2018 session led by my humble self as we X-ray some of the many achievements to our credit so far.

★ Shortly after we assumed office, we attracted a scholarship of #100,000 courtesy of FCMB where two indigent students were given #50,000 cash each to assist in their education.

★ We embarked on regulation of food prices on campus and ensured quality service delivery in restaurants on campus.

★ Through responsible mediation we facilitated the restoration of power supply to Eyo-Ita and Bello Halls (These halls had no power supply for about two months prior to our assumption of office)

★ Refurbishment of union bus that was hitherto in a sorry state

★ Resolution  of light issues at Aja Nwachukwu Hall 

★ Improvement of security on campus (Prior to our assumption of office, the security situation on campus was not as efficient but there is great improvement today)

★ Creation of University of Nigeria Debating Society (UNDS)

★ Free World Cup viewing to all students: Unprecedented (We viewed all the World Cup matches live at no cost to over 5,000 students)

★ Organization of students jog out and other excellent sporting activities (To encourage fitness and physical well-being of the students)

★ Creation of admission quota for sporting students (Unprecedented)

★ Restoration of Street Lights on campus

★ We organized the first SUG UNN two day Students Congress (To bring the government down to the students and encourage grass root leadership)

★ We organized a joint consultative meeting to enhance synergy between the SUG, Faculty Presidents and Hall Governors. 

★  Creation of Students Hour on Lion FM radio station (in order to get direct feedback and interact with fellow students).

★ We mediated and ensured non increment in the tuition fees: Unprecedented (This is the first time in over 5 years that a relative increase in tuition fees was not experienced)

★  Reduction of hostel fees from the initially increased #20,000 and #17,000 respectively, to #15,000 and #12,000 (What it used to be)

★ Organization of the first SUG UNN orientation for freshmen: Unprecedented (Over 5,000 freshmen were in attendance)

★ Organization of the first SUG UNN financial summit (Unprecedented) 

★ Organized an SUG UNN skill acquisition programme where students were trained in crafts and skills such as Soap making, bead making, cake making, photography, barbing, Ankara bag and shoes making, etc. (To encourage entrepreneurship amongst students)

★ We attracted one of the biggest electoral sensitization in Nigeria to UNN. That brought celebrities like Tu face Idibia, Chidinma Ekile, Banky W, Uti Nwachukwu, and and Ebuka Obi-Uchendu among others, which was tagged 'Youth Votes Count's courtesy of the European Union, INEC, ECES. (This was to educate the students on the need to participate actively and responsibly at elections) 

★ Dissemination of timely and accurate information to the students

★ Annulment and cancellation of policies that threatened students welfare such as

     - Transport policy hitherto mandating all motor bike owners on campus to pay registration fees

     -BVN policy hitherto mandating all students to submit their BVN

★  Innovative initiation of SUG UNN Notebooks: Unprecedented (Which will be sold to students lesser than the market price).

★ Procurement of Union Public Address System for dissemination of information 

★ Winning of 11 medals: 1 Gold, 5 Silver and 5 Bronze medals by the UNN athletics team led by the SUG Director of Games at the 2018 West African University Games (WAUG) 

★  Organization of social events on campus

★ Organized several conferences and Workshops aimed at human capacity building. 

★ Opening of portal for course registration to enable students who could not pay on time write their CBT exams, to mention but a few.

Student Unionism

I will not pretend that we have done all there is to be done, there are still myriads of challenges confronting us, but we believe by God's grace we shall overcome all.

Great lions and lionesses! We are happy to tell you that all these wouldn't have been possible but for your love, support and fervent prayers. The success story we share today is is as a result of the concerted efforts of every executive member, in synergy with the legislature (The Senate House and House of Representatives), the Judiciary and Hall Government. We are not resting on our laurels, we shall do more!

Specially, I thank our own Vice Chancellor, our ever loving father Prof. B. C. Ozumba, none of this would have been possible but for for his fatherly care and soft spot for the students. We are grateful sir

I cannot forget our amiable and loving Dean of student affairs Prof S. I. Ofoefule and our Associate Dean Dr. E. O. Omeje, we cannot love you less. My sincere gratitude goes to everyone who has kept the faith, thank you. And to those I may have stepped on their toes while discharging my duties, I am sincerely sorry. Let us bury the hatchet, forget the pains of 2018 and consolidate the gains.

Lastly, I pray that this year 2019 shall bring us everything good, more rewarding partnerships and greater achievements. Preserving aluta integrity is still the vision. I thank you all for giving me the opportunity to serve, it has been my greatest pleasure for it profits most he who serves best! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
